Essay Writing Contest
In early 2013, the Dearborn Library Foundation hosted an essay writing contest for high school seniors attending schools located in Dearborn. Essays of 500 to 700 words were submitted in January on one of the following two topics: The Role of Libraries Today or The Book That Most Influenced My Life. Student authors of the two winning essays were awarded $500 each in May 2013. Details on the winners can be found by clicking the contest link on the Home page.

No Cost Events - The Foundation has been working several no cost events to enhance visibility and raise funds. In this regard, the Kroger’s Community Rewards program has made quarterly payments to the Foundation totaling over $5,553 since 2010. Thank you to all who have signed up and to Kroger’s for partnering with the Foundation! May 2013 started a new donation year for Kroger which requires each participating (and new) supporter of the Library to sign up your Kroger Plus Shopper's Card again! This must be done at the Kroger website:(www.krogercommunityrewards.com) Kroger has discontinued the in-store sign-up process. Please consider connecting your card now to benefit the Dearborn Library Foundation. The current program is scheduled to continue through April 2014.

The Children's Author Luncheon:
The second annual luncheon was held in September, 2011 featuring Michigan children's books author Ruth Mcnally Barshaw. For the audience the author reviewed her books, her artistic style and how she got started in her writing career. She also engaged the young participants in making drawing of the style found in the author's Ellie McDoodle series. Photos of the event are included at the end of this page.
The Dearborn Public Library Foundation wants to thank the many luncheon sponsors that allow the Foundation to host this event.
